What type of volunteer opportunities will be available?
There will be various opportunities to volunteer throughout the season. Examples include:

• Head Coach or Assistant Coach (Each team will have 1 head coach and 2 assistant coaches)
• Team parent (Click link for more information on this role)
• Concessions
  
• Field preparation
• Umpiring
  
• Mowing and trimming
• Emptying trash bins
  
• Open board positions

Is the list of volunteer opportunities identified above exhaustive?
No! We welcome any ideas you may have on how you can contribute to a successful season. Please reach out to the volunteer coordinator at [email protected] or any league board member at [email protected] on how to best use your expertise to help provide our players with the best Little League experience possible.

What is the volunteering requirement?
The requirement will be a few hours of your time. Once registration closes in the spring and the number of players and teams are known, the league will set the practice and game schedules and then can finalize the volunteering opportunities to meet your requirement.

When can I sign up to volunteer?
During registration there is an opportunity to sign up.

Do I have to volunteer while my child is playing?
NO! We understand how important it is to parents to not miss a second of the action, therefore we’d encourage you to volunteer when your child(ren) are not playing but it’s left up to you to decide what works best.

The coach asked for my help at a practice or game, does that satisfy the requirement?
No. While any help you can give to the coaching staff is greatly appreciated, coaching is a season long commitment that goes beyond what is seen on the field.

What does the concession stand involve?
Duties include but are not limited to filling customer orders, restocking the refrigerator, help prepare and serve food items, clean up, take inventory, and other tasks as necessary.

Tell me more about field preparation.
The coaches are responsible for the field preparation before and after games but they are simply raking and lining the fields due to the limited time before and after games. Just like our yards need constant attention, so do our fields. Field care is season long, just not once on field day. From edging the infields, to keeping the batters box and pitching mounds level, it takes a lot of us to keep our fields in great shape. There will be one off opportunities to help with the fields but also consider inquiring about our fields committee and how you can help all season long.

I’ve met my volunteering requirement. Can I volunteer again?
ABSOLUTELY! There is no Octorara Area Little League without volunteers. We will never turn away help and encourage you to assist whenever you can. Want to take on the responsibility of a task for the entire year? No problem. There's always something to do!!
