Team Parent

An exceptional team parent can be an amazing resource for the coaches, players, and families on the team. The role is somewhere between an administrative assistant and an assistant coach. A team parent is going to be one of the main points of contact between the coach and other parents. Volunteering as a team parent allows the coaches to concentrate on coaching, the players, and team development. You will also work with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that each family completes their volunteer requirements. The role could be a lot of fun for you, the team, and the coaches if done properly.

Duties may include:

  • Attending a team parent meeting.
  • Remind parents to sign up to work in the concession stand.
  • Recruit parents to umpire mainly the Minors AA division and other divisions as necessary.
  • Being a bench parent for the younger divisions. The younger players always need an adult supervising them and players often need assistance with the batting order, finding their bats/gloves/hats, putting the catchers gear on and off, etc.
  • Run the scoreboard for games on the lower or middle field.
  • Take pictures of the game and/or collect photos from other parents and submit them to the social media director ([email protected]) for posting on our Facebook and Instagram page.
  • Submit final scores of games.
  • Organize postgame snacks for the team by asking other parents/guardians to select a date to provide a snack/drink. An allergy list (if applicable) will be provided for each team parent to ensure there are no snacks that may impact any player(s).
  • Send reminders about league events (i.e. Phillies Home Run Derby and MLB Pitch, Hit, and Run, etc.).
  • Remind parents about ongoing fundraisers.
  • Encourage the team to like our Facebook and Instagram pages since we will be communicating and sharing a lot of information on those platforms throughout the season.
  • Organize team and players for Picture Day. Remind players/parents of assigned time for photos. Distribute photos to the team once they arrive.
  • Coordinate an optional year end party for your team.
  • Have parents assist in pregame or postgame field care.

These are just some of the duties that typically fall on a coach on top of running practices and games. You can clearly see how much is put on our coaches which can leave less time with the team. That is why we need your help! Let's get a team parent for all of our teams!!
